After years of suffering back pain, I was shocked to hear that my diet may be contributing to just how much pain I was in.
For years I thought that there was just something very specifically wrong with my back like a bulging disc, a spinal stenosis or a structural abnormality.
Ultimately this was true, I did have two bulging discs in my back, one in my neck and a spondylolisthesis at L5. This was most certainly causing a lot of my pain and my ongoing flare ups.
I was shocked however to discover that my diet was also almost certainly contributing to my back pain.
What really surprised me was that diet, exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight played a major role specific to my back health. If only I had this knowledge earlier it could have played a big part in the prevention of much of my pain.
Once I changed my diet by adding good foods and limiting bad foods on a daily basis, I saw a big difference in not only my back and neck pain, but my overall health and mood.
These are some of the foods that I added to my diet on a daily basis.
Kale, spinach, avocado, banana. I also added some flax seeds and chia seeds, goji berries, blueberries and ground buts.
I then added some supplements to my daily intake such as…
Magnesium, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin K and fish oil.
I put all these ingredients into a blender with enough fluid to make it into a drinking consistency using half and half filtered water and coconut water and I called it “Jackson’s Green Smoothie”.
I also cut out some foods that where exacerbating my back pain and creating inflammation throughout my body. The three main items were diary, gluten and sugar. These where quite difficult to cut out as I had been consuming these types of foods my whole life, never having any idea that they where helping my body store inflammation and adding to the amount of pain I was constantly in.
Here is a photo of me drinking my daily smoothie. It actually tastes a whole heap better than it looks and sounds in this blog.
I encourage everyone who has been dealing with chronic pain to seriously look at their diet and to potentially make some changes. It could make a massive difference.
Peace, Love and Positivity
